The new processors for smartphones and tablets, 64-bit Android ... - PCLab.pl

Tablets based on 64-bit version of the Google Android operating system and 64-bit Intel “Bay Trail” appear to have next year. This announcement presented by Intel, during a recent conference for investors.

Head of Intel’s Brian Krzanich said that his company is already working on a 64-bit version of Android. Currently, Intel plans that tablets with 64-bit Android will appear after the introduction of the tablet market with 64-bit systems “Bay Trail”, based on a 64-bit operating system Microsoft Windows 8.1. The last on the market should go in the first quarter of next year. Krzanich announced that the tablets of systems “Bay Trail” may have prices starting from just $ 150 per unit. It is worth mentioning that the Intel “Bay Trail” now support 64-bit addressing.

Currently tablets with processors based on ARM and x86 from Intel are only available with 32-bit versions of Android. For now, it is not officially certain is the exact version of Android will be used in the first 64-bit tablets, Intel-based. We only know that Intel is currently working on a compilation of x86 Android “KitKat” 4.4. It is possible, therefore, is that it is “KitKat” will be available as the first 64-bit x86 Android.

It should be borne in mind also that tablets with Android and Intel will be the first of this type of devices that use a 64-bit architecture. The first is Air iPads and iPad mini from Apple, using A7 SoC, as well as a 64-bit version of Apple’s operating system iOS. Apple claims that 64-bit addressing provides better performance in your application and rendering three-dimensional graphics. The deputy head and general manager of software and services group at Intel, Doug Fisher said that the tablet with 64-bit Android is access to larger memory resources and also open the way for Ultra HD video on mobile devices.

Intel is hoping that this year could triple the supply of its processors for tablets, reaching the number of 40 million units.

But that’s not all, Intel is preparing for the mobile device market. We already know that next year will receive a new generation of Atom processors, called “Merriefield”. This design is intended to be for high-performance smartphones and tablets from the medium price segment. “Merriefield” to be composed, among others, with two x86 cores Silvermont, improved graphics processor, integrated control unit sensors. There will be a while before any controller connected to mobile networks. The second incarnation of this architecture is the “Moorefield” in which Intel will implement four cores Silvermont, as well as improvements related to energy management and security. Both “Moorefield” and “Meriefield” are to be produced in the dimension 22 nanometer technology.

Around half of 2014 years appear to have a completely new modem TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA, which supports, among other things speed up to 300 Mb / s (Cat 6), 17 areas of 4G/LTE FDD and TDD bands 6. As a very versatile unit, a new modem Intel has a chance to be get a lot of popularity among manufacturers of smartphones and tablets.

Intel’s plans are still not all. Make the end of next year, wants to introduce to offer integrated SoC (System-on-a-Chip), codenamed “Cherry Trail”, which will be applied to the new generation of x86 cores Airmont, and the eighth-generation graphics processor. “Cherry Trail” is strongly raise the bar on the Performance and lower power consumption. This system, however, despite the potential benefits against the background of his successor might look quite modestly.

Next in line is the fact, “Broxton”, so the first ever Atoms for any mobile device, which Intel calls “Ultra-Mobile”. It will be based on a completely new, very universal architecture, which quickly and easily you will be able to change the configuration of the units, create new projects, as well as structures tailored to the specific requirements of equipment manufacturers. Generally speaking, “Broxton” is to make Intel’s new market demand will be able to respond much faster than ever before. Brian Krzanich in his speech said that we should expect a wide range of systems based on “Broxtonie”, designed for very different classes of devices with varying performance and capabilities.

produced in the technological dimension 14 nanometers, “Broxton” is to have its basis in architecture processor “Goldmont”. Interestingly, despite the bold announcement, Intel ensures that thanks to this system will offer several new, unique capabilities, but does not intend to reveal any details yet. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the project “Broxton” gives the possibility to integrate in the third-party solutions. Apparently we will have to deal with first, open the processor design, the execution of Intel. The manufacturer currently provides that “Broxton” will be available in mid-2015.

All we have is the last of raisins. In order to meet the producers of low-cost tablets and smartphones, Intel plans to throw its offer SoC “Sofia”, equipped with 3G and HSPA + and x86 cores based on the Atom class. How was this project? Intel chose a fairly simple way to obtain it. The company used several years already design of SoC communication group Infineon, now owned by Intel. With this project the ARM core was removed and in its place was inserted core x84-64 (possibly Silvermont, although it is not confirmed). In this way, Intel gained much affordable integrated solution for mobile devices. It is worth noting that, over the second half of 2014 years layouts “Sofia” will be produced in the factories of Intel, and by an external company. A year later, the company intends to enlarge its offer with a new generation of the “Sofia”, already equipped with a modem 4G/LTE and produced in in their own factories, the technological dimension 14 nanometers.

Hot Chips is an annual symposium organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It is on the manufacture of microprocessors and other integrated circuits frequently reveal structural details upcoming products. The main sponsors of the Hot Chips are Intel and AMD. Summarize important information for us.

Low Voltage processors from the “Y”, with a very low TDP, Intel introduced at the beginning of the year, but only now beginning to emerge first devices based on them. One of them is the Acer Aspire P3, ultrabook / tablet that you can buy, among others, in the version with the Core i5-3339Y. Here’s a test.

Battlefield 4 is important not only because it is one of the most popular online FPS type games. It is important first of all by the fact that it uses modern engine Frostbite 3, which surprisingly does well with support for multi-core processors and new graphics cards extensions such as DirectX 11.2. That’s why today’s test cards and processors is an important indication for those who intend to buy in the near future new equipment for the upcoming games. After a long wait and the battles in the trial version of the beta, players from many countries of today can play in the final, complete edition.
