More Material Design!
As in previous editions of Chrome was possible to activate the new interface in the Material Design, but decided on it only a few days ago. At the moment he seems to be already so polished that they will not wait for us no unpleasant surprises or problems – przeklikałem almost all corners of Chrome and have not found any shortcoming. The solution is still regarded as an experiment, but you can not worry activate them in the “flags” in the latest edition of Chrome.
And what impression does the new look?
In my assessment: excellent. Very positively surprised me how well the new look of the browser interacts with the Windows 10 interface of the two products were prepared using almost a different approach, so I had some concerns that when you are already so awaited MD interface in Chrome, the dissonance between the operating system and the browser will too large. It turns out that several common features, like the “flattening” of the interface elements, is fully sufficient. New Chrome seems to be … softer. The font is clearly a “lighter” and all the icons. Not really suits me an increased field of each tab on the top bar, but you can get used to it and just stop to pay attention to it. I’m very curious to see how the change would react so. “Ordinary users”.
Good changes in Android
not less emotion stirs the second of the things we would like to raise, which is announced by Google changes in the design of the Android app . Until now, the bottom navigation bar was clearly associated with system software in iOS and planned in view of the system applications, but soon this will change. Recently updated guidelines for developing applications for Android provide guidance on the use of such a panel navigation. So far in this role usually played the “hamburger” in one corner of the screen, which was selected retractable side panel with a list of sections. Moving between them required to perform one step more.
Unlike iOS apps in the Android bar will disappear when you scroll the screen, of course, to increase the available space. This change does not mean also that “burger menu” is completely withdrawn. If the application will have two sections, it used to be ‘tab’ placed at the top of the screen. If the section is six or more, it returns to the game was activated by pressing the “hamburger menu”. In other circumstances – from three to five sections – it is advisable to use the above mentioned news: the bottom navigation bar.
this is a very good decision and I hope that developers and designers will pick up as soon as the novelty and introduce corresponding amendments to their applications. This solution is perfect for iOS for many, many years and I am his true supporter. Proof of this is my very dissatisfaction with the changes that have made Apple in the Music application, where the lower the “menu” has been replaced completely impractical drop-down menu in the center of the screen.
Google is already in the process of updating their own applications – Photos Google some time ago lived to see a new navigation method, which forced me to change my habits, but in the end each time a positive impact on interaction with the application. Googlers are well aware of how much work still ahead of them (just to mention the browser based versions of Gmail and Calendar, which have not yet refreshing), but any such action in the right direction can optimistically look to the closer and the more distance future.
