Android root widespread malware in third-party app stores – Computerworld

Retailing applications are not as safe as you would expect. Android users should pay special attention to security issues when installing new programs, even if they come from the official repository.

Android is developed by Google. In most cases, phones and smartphones with this software give users access to the Google Play Store, which is the official repository of digital content: movies, books, music, games and applications.

Owners of devices that do not have access to Google Play, and all those who want to benefit from a different source, you can install on your device another app store independent from Google.

Unfortunately, the installation of the application from the store does not guarantee that you will not hit for malware. According to research Trend Micro applications containing malware could be found in four app stores for Android.

Trend Micro were 1,163 applications for Android that smuggled on smartphones and tablets malicious code described as ANDROIDOS_ LIBSKIN.A. This malware is particularly dangerous because it obtains root privileges, and the attacker has almost full access to the infected machine.

Malware word got around the world. Only between 29 January and 2 February went up to 169 countries. Malware was spread by such stores as Aptoide, Mobogenie, Mobile9 and 9apps. Amazon App Store and Google Play was not on the list. As you can see, both corporations are somewhat better able to protect their resources for inappropriate content repositories than independent applications.
