In order to improve the security of Android users against vulnerabilities discovered in recent months, Kaspersky Lab has released a new free mobile application. Kaspersky Fake ID Scanner scans smartphones and tablets for vulnerabilities that can expose you to the risk data, privacy, and even the users’ money.

In recent months, there was no shortage of information about new threats. One of the new vulnerabilities, which attracted a lot of attention, was the vulnerability of Fake ID detected by experts from Bluebox Labs. It allows attackers to hide any application – including harmful – in the form of useful and legitimate programs created by well-known and trusted manufacturers.

Another gap that was on the lips of almost everyone, it Heartbleed. It can be used to read the contents of memory on systems with certain versions of OpenSSL. This means that an attacker can gain access to sensitive user data, by sending a specially prepared request. Luka Heartbleed affected many computers around the world, including Google’s servers.

One of the recent discoveries is also a gap Master Key, which allows cybercriminals to gain access to your Android device with administrator (root). As a result, an attacker can run any software without your knowledge or consent.

Although Google quickly cope with the removal of this type of vulnerability – and so it was in this case – millions of users with Android devices can still be infected. This is due to the fact that manufacturers of smartphones and tablets are often quite slow to add upgrades – especially for older devices. Malicious programs can, therefore, in the form of popular applications to access such unpatched mobile devices in order to steal data, entrainment user accounts in social networking sites, banking information extraction and so on.

To enable users to protect against threats of this kind, Kaspersky Lab created Kaspersky Free Fake ID Scanner – tool for owners of Android devices on the hardware scan for vulnerabilities and assurance that the installed applications do not benefit from reducing security vulnerabilities. The application does not remove the detected vulnerabilities, but allows you to instantly install the free version of Kaspersky Internet Security for Android, if any threats are identified. This product protects mobile devices from malware, regardless of the channel they use to infect Android.

The application is compatible with Android since version 2.3 and is available for free in the Google Play store in English: https : //play.google.com/store/apps/details? id = com.kaspersky.lightscanner.

The information can be used freely subject to the administration of Kaspersky Lab as a source.
