Android vulnerable to a simple attack – KopalniaWiedzy

According to the company Zimperium until 95% of smartphones with Android may be susceptible to simple assault carried out by means of a text message with an attached video file. Employees Zimperium reported that the built-in Android stagefright tool that is used to play multimedia files, there is a hole allowing for total gain control over smartphone. Just that the owner receives a malicious message. Attackers can then, among others, to steal the information stored on the smartphone. According to Zimperium gap has not yet been exploited by cybercriminals.

The hole was discovered in April, and announced that it Zimperium Google. Representatives of the group stated that “the majority of Android devices, including all recent devices use multiple technologies impeding attack. Android also uses sandbox that protects user data and other applications on the device.”
Malicious code that uses said the gap is hidden in the video clip. Once the user receives information, stagefright is preparing to restore the clip. Probably the same process of preparation is enough to infect your system and give cybercriminals control over it.

The exact route of attack depends on the platform that you use. When we use the Messenger to infect just read the text attached to the message. Those who benefit from the application Hangout not even have her open to infection took place because Hangout immediately after receiving the message starts to process the video.

The great problem of Android is fragmented, its environment. Google does not have a decisive influence on how the amendment goes into the system. Both handset manufacturers and mobile network operators control the sending of amendments. When the hole is discovered Android, Google can only prepare an amendment and send it. Whether or not you receive it depends from the phone manufacturer or network operator.
