Each new release of Android borrows its name from some sweets. This question always causes a lot of interest, but the Indians this time decided to take matters into their own hands and fight to the successor of Android Marshmallow was baptized as … Android Neyyappam.
Dessert consists (very simply) with rice and sugar, and the whole is fried in deep fat. Interestingly, one of the arguments for choosing this dish as the name of the next release of Android is that it comes from the Indian state of Kerala, which in turn is adjacent to Tamilnadu. And the latter is derived the current CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai.
CEO even last year, during the session of Q & A at the University of New Delhi, with great enthusiasm accepted the idea of Android N bear the name of some Indian dessert. He even suggested that the survey will be carried out so that everyone willing can submit your proposal.
And so it proved, as on Android, you can enter your idea (link to source). The Indians, however, went a step further and created a special website to promote Neyyappam selecting a name for Android N. encourage it to use hasztagu #AndroidNeyyappam and follow the official Twitter profile.
Personally, I doubt that the action brought Indians some effect because there is one fundamental problem, actually two. First, the word Neyyappam is quite difficult to pronounce correctly for anyone who has never had contact with Hindi. Secondly, Google always uses English names, so it is unlikely that this time decided to borrow it from another language.
