The loudest is always on flagship smartphones. We always hear about new models of high-end, they have established a sales record, whether achieved the best results in benchmarks. However, most users can not afford to buy them or simply do not need offered by them. For them, the most interesting are the devices with lower priced. This time I checked one of these just cheap smartphones. To our Labu got costing 300 zloty myPhone Funky 8 GB. An ugly, blocky and solid
Even at first glance that we are dealing with a cheap smartphone. It’s not about quality, and of dimensions. Small screen and wide frame around it always remind me of the low-end models. MyPhone Funky in terms of appearance does not impress, it’s just another unremarkable device from the competition.
At the front of the producer placed a 4-inch display, webcam, speaker system and three buttons. I’m such a supporter of the buttons displayed on the screen as my colleague Luke Weaver editorial, I really like typical for Samsung phones physical home button. However, if I receive such buttons as in MyPhone, with all my heart I am behind those on the screen. Their main drawback is the lack of backlighting, making it difficult to use the device at night. This is even more noticeable when you change to a different smartphone with Android because Funky button layout is reversed – the back button is placed on the right side. Manufacturer performing buttons in entering into a golden, wanted certainly add an elegant look. According to me, the resulting effect is the opposite, it looks a little cheesy, especially when combined with the wide, black frame. The layer protects the screen quickly grabs greasy fingerprints, I have not seen such a fast messing up the screen. I recommend use of protective film, which was included in the kit.
In this model, each edge MyPhone was used, none remained empty. At the top we find the audio and microUSB connector. I would prefer to microUSB was on the opposite side. Most smartphone held vertically, which makes the joint is visible all the time and it does not affect the appearance positively. At the bottom are two different speaker grilles, which suggest that under them there are two large speakers. Whether in fact this is the case, you’ll find out with the rest of review. On the right edge you will find a switch placed at the top, just under the finger. However, its use is not convenient, need to go too deep press to unlock the smartphone. It also does not look too solid, quite clearly is moving in the future may stop responding correctly. On the left side is a volume control button that I can not fault it, there is no defect switch.
The main placed at the back camera, LED flash, the manufacturer’s logo and in the middle of a large inscription “funky 8 GB”. In the box you will find two rear flaps – black and white. I liked this solution, I remembered the times when we could, to some extent customize the look of the enclosure to your liking. After removing the flap itself bends easily, especially in a place cut-outs on the volume button. It was made of soft-touch plastics material and should have good resist the first latents use. She could not put a little more resistance fingers, it is quite slippery and smartphones can thus easily slip out of hand.
The whole structure is solid and well matched. Nothing looks like it would fall off in the coming weeks, nothing creaks under pressure. The exact dimensions of the device are 124.1 × 63.8 × 9.9 mm, and the whole thing weighs 125 grams. The smartphone is so small and lightweight. I think that fits into any pocket.
Small screen can be an advantage
Funky has a tiny, because 4-inch IPS display with a modest resolution of 480 × 800 pixels. At a time when producers determine the version of the mini models with a screen diagonal of 5 inches, tiny screen myPhone seems to be even less. Size is not a defect are quite a few number of people for whom this would be almost perfect diagonal. Smartphone quietly we can serve only one hand, no problem we reach every corner of thumb. Support would be even more convenient if the frame were narrower. The advantage of the small screen is used sharpness of the image at a modest resolution of 480 × 800. In normal use, the ripening of a single pixel is quite difficult. Focus less clear only when you look closely.
I admit that positively surprised me color reproduction. We receive natural, slightly faded colors. Still do better viewing angles, the image does not change even at a wide angle. Unfortunately, it not in all respects is as well. Black lot missing to perfection, there are also problems with sensitivity to touch. Sometimes I had to reselect the item, because for the first time, the device did not react. Such a situation I had to deal with 4-5 times for two weeks. Not counting these situations, the touch screen did not cause any trouble, my instructions were detected correctly and immediately.
The maximum brightness is, however, too low, which mainly be felt on the outside. In addition, a protective layer screen quite good at bouncing sunlight, and this coupled with poor resistance to greasy fingerprints, makes use of the smartphone in the light of the sun is uncomfortable. You will not find it automatically adjust the brightness level to the environment, with a corresponding level we need to take care of its own.
Android running smoothly, and that’s the most important
Inside the inconspicuous housing, unfortunately, we do not find efficient components. The heart of this model is the Mediatek MT6572 dual-core system, which consists of the Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz. In contrast, smooth animation in games strives to provide Mali-400 GPU, clocked at 500 MHz. On board we find even 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB for user files. I did not notice the cabinet to heat up noticeably. Even during the long sessions of play smartphone does not become uncomfortably warm.
myPhone Funky 8GB is running almost pure Android. The manufacturer has changed little, we got a few new icons and a few additional applications. Let’s start with the operating system itself. It’s an old Android 4.4.2 and rather not count on upgrades. On the other hand, they do not have the Android 5, even much more expensive devices. The biggest advantage of almost unmodified Android is its smooth operation. At this inconspicuous smartphone not seen any, even momentary twist. It is true that because of just 1 GB of RAM happened that a couple of times a running application is closed, but I will add that I did not care at all about background processes.
Simple applications will operate satisfactorily quickly, but with more elaborate sometimes we have to wait a little longer. I note that at present more extensive application can be called even Facebook, unfortunately for light application and do not appreciably affect the operation of this cheap smartphone.
I think that after prolonged use, installed, Facebook, Instagrama, Snapchata and several other applications running in the background, its use should not be the most convenient. The components allow for it to smooth animation in less demanding games, so even if we play Angry Birds.
I liked that the manufacturer of Android adapted to our country. Additional applications are Polonized and most importantly, are tailored to the Polish audience. Among them we find even Jakdojade.pl, Ryszard or NaviExpert (available version works only for 7 days). It is a pity that many large manufacturers comes not just to the Polish market.
The smartphone has a battery capacity of 1500 mAh, and so rather small. However, due to a slight display and applied to components, myPhone in terms of battery life does not stand out from the models of the highest quality. The charger must connect it every 1-2 days.
When buying a cheap phone, we expect a device that will primarily serve to communicate with friends. In terms of call quality falls Funky really good, the sound is clear and loud. We are also good to hear. The advantage are two sockets on the SIM card, so while we can use two numbers.
Pictures taken in the evening it is better not to show
Funky 8GB has two cameras. First, the main (OmniVision 5645) located at the rear and allows you to capture images at a maximum resolution of 5 MP, as well as video recording in HD. Photos for a device costing 300 zloty are satisfactory quality, but nothing more. However, this only applies to those performed with really good lighting. At worse conditions image quality significantly decreases are shown above all the noise. They do not impress then their focus, as well as colors.
The LED light does not help, on the contrary, a negative effect on quality. After using the final result looks like we benefited from an ordinary flashlight. If you want to take pictures, then we have to limit ourselves to only those shot in natural light. Captured the photographs may be suitable for thrown on the social networks.
On the front we find a modest VGA camera, and therefore a resolution of just 0.3 MP. There she meets many users expect – not suitable for selfie. We can use it for video calling and that if you do not care about their quality. For me, in front of webcam could never be. Instead, the producer might give us a better picture quality rear camera.
Application camera does not stand out with anything special. The same can be found on many other devices running under Android. Using it is fairly convenient access to key options we have directly on the screen. For me, blocky interface looks a little like it was created without concern for the appearance of individual elements. Among the available modes you can find the HDR and panorama. In contrast to the settings we can, inter alia, to decide exposure, color effect (eg. Sepia, negative) scene mode or manually set the white balance. Most of the owners of this smartphone will be satisfied with the available functions, many probably limited to the automatic mode. It could work slightly better, sometimes has problems with the appropriate focus setting.
The manufacturer boasts of “an innovative sound system” i-Sound. The quality of the sound coming out is good, but this innovation did not feel. In addition to the lower edge are two masks, suggesting that we are dealing with two speakers. However, it is not, we got only one speaker, and the other is a dummy grille. However, the speaker plays loud and clear, and this is the most important device in its class. If you want to listen to music, it should connect headphones.
Summary: Is it worth it to spend 300 zloty?
If you have read thoroughly review, it certainly noticed that I complained on many items. In fact, this smartphone is far from ideal. It impresses not appearance, physical buttons do not fall right, the screen is too dark and the colors are a little faded. Added to this is the low efficiency and poor camera. Note, however, that we are dealing with really cheap smartphone and we can not expect the quality of the device with the above shelf.
myPhone Funky 8 GB costs only 300 dollars and for the price falls pretty good. We get good quality, items are a good fit, and the case should abolish the use of a well. For many people, the small screen will be an advantage, not everyone needs a “pan”, which fills the entire pocket in his pants. As I have just mentioned – the yield is low, but sufficient for the smooth operation of Android, simple applications and games. In contrast, Android has been adapted himself to the Polish recipient, which is not common.
Tested smartphone is typical of low-end products. If you are looking for a cheap device, as most worth of interest Funky 8 GB. It has many faults, but also their competition is missing. And with a smoothly even acting for Android, myPhone should be a better choice than many other models.
