We are debunking the myths about applications from Android and iOS and available on … – Spider’s Web

After the announcement at a conference co Build 2015 of Windows 10 applications with iOS and Android and created many different myths, and the networks circulating very imprecise information. Time to deal with the myths and explain what this cooperation has actually rely on.

“No one is going to write applications for Windows”. “Applications of Android will be able to download and upload on the phone with Windows 10″. These are just some of the many nonsense that roam the networks on the cooperation of Microsoft’s development tools with source code programs and iOS and Android. Many of you, probably unconsciously, also repeats them in the comments on Spider’s Web. Time clarify some key issues, which inspired us to interview with Kevin Gallo, published in the pages of TechRadaru.

Let’s start with the most important: the application of Android and iOS and can not be simply “just like that” to put in the device memory Windows 10, and they will work to you without hesitation or with minor problems. It is the most common myth often repeated on the Web. This is what was announced at the Build 2015 applies to the source code of the application. This means that to move it to Windows 10 will be able to only its creator (or a person who has access to the source code of the program).

But that does not end the matter. There is no guarantee that this automatic port work immediately on Windows 10. The first and obvious: all references to the native services for the system, for example, Google Play will not function. Secondly, almost certainly functions related to the application in the background will be replaced. As an example, Gallo provides instant messaging. Android and Windows are too different from each other, especially in handling tasks in the background, without any adjustment that it could work. Microsoft system offers opportunities not available in the Google and vice versa, so full compatibility with automatic conversion may not be possible.

Another argument raised by skeptics is that if you move an application from a much more profitable platforms at minimal effort, then why bother actually writing native applications for Windows? After all, it is money down the drain, which rightly suggests logic.

The skeptics are right … to a point. Microsoft actually provides that the first stage of a new influx of applications to the Windows Store will be the ones transferred from smartphones with Android, at most supplemented by active tiles, and CORT integration with Xbox. But the moment in which the applications will succeed and compete with each other, the developer due to pressure from users and competition, decides to rewrite the application from scratch on Windows.

Applications moved from “foreign” system Windows 10 can not be universal. In other words, will work only on phones with Windows 10. They will not be able to operate in a Continuum, they will not be able to work on the desktop, they can not be made publicly available in the store for all types of devices (smartphone, tablet, PC, Xbox, HoloLens).

In other words, the port of Android and iOS and check in case of less ambitious developers who without this facility do not concern yourself windows of time and did not seem to him the money. Check also for larger companies that are not certain whether the currently small user base of Windows can earn: now you can check this by investing in its relatively very little money.

However, these groups androidowo-iosowych, smartfonowych applications which will gain recognition not thousands, and millions of users on which they will compete, will have to be rewritten to those for Windows. As you do this you, do it your competitor.
