Android more open Google decides to OpenJDK – dobreprogramy

confirmed information indicated recently the site Hacker News, for the next version of the Android operating system. Soon, the software has become more open and quite unexpected reason for this state of affairs is likely to conflict that lasts a long time between Google and Oracle. The Android is in fact implemented the open version of Java, OpenJDK.

As reported by VentureBeat service, according to the official position of the OpenJDK implementation of the Google reasons are obviously not nohow related to the ongoing process. The company states in fact that the need to get rid of the Android APIs parts belonging to Oracle (almost 9 thousand. Files) and replace them with open analogues is dictated primarily intent to facilitate the work of developers. There were, of course, proudly sounding declarations dealing Android more open.

As an open source platform, Android is built through collaboration with the community. In the next version of Android, we plan, we plan to convert Java libraries based on OpenJDK, thus creating a communal code base for developers.

Of course you can not refuse because Google and you assume that the authors of Android applications will appreciate the open API that can to some extent simplify software development primarily due to the replacement of several bases APIs one open. However, the justification of these changes willingness to open Android may be some abuse.

Especially in the context of the ongoing since 2010 (the same year, Oracle acquired Sun) process in which Oracle has accused Google of implementing a closed Java APIs in violation of copyright. Since then there has been some twists and turns: in 2012, the court has not found a violation of rights, but the sentence was repealed in the second instance, two years later. The US Supreme Court decided that the matter should once again to consider a lower court, which is currently the case.

Google’s decision is thus dictated primarily by pragmatism and probably losing the potential costs of the process. Paradoxically, this situation has indeed changed for the opening of Android, as well as in some sense to facilitate the work of developers. Left unanswered the question of whether Google would have the similar steps, if not lasting 5 years process.
